I'm just going to repost here what I had said on my Tumblr blog about art theft and piracy.

But the definition of words change over time. Yes, once upon a time art theft did mean the physical act of stealing artwork. But in today's society, that term has changed and evolved.

To define art piracy would be to take artwork with intent to make a profit off of it. A lot of people do this online. Amazon, eBay, Hot Topic, Welovefine, etsy. There are also second parties over seas who will take art and turn them into blankets, towels, stickers etc, and sell them to unsuspecting people. This is known as art piracy.

But to take someone's art with intent to claim as or edit without proper written permission is considered art theft. Even if credit is given in the last minuet, it's still taken without permission and intent to use.

(I just don't buy that the people in charge of ProtectART are lawyers, it's too suspicious to me)

Apologies for my lack of knowledge about this, I'm playing 'catch up' with recent events, but what's ProtectART?

Is it a feature on dA?
